The Mayor’s Office of the City of Miami Beach honored Mollie Horwitz, the city’s oldest and most beloved resident, on her 109th birthday, celebrated on March 16, 2025. Mollie has been a cherished member of our EHDOC family at Council Towers North for 47 years!
The celebration was held at Ole Ole Steak House, where Mollie was surrounded by local family—including her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren—as well as friends and admirers. Guests enjoyed a lovely birthday lunch, a grand cake adorned with yellow and orange roses, and heartfelt tributes to Mollie’s extraordinary life.
Gloria Campos, Liaison to the Office of the Mayor and Commission and a Board Member of Council Towers, organized the event and attended in her official capacity. Miami Beach Mayor Steve Meiner greeted all, and congratulated Mollie. Miami Beach Commissioner David Suarez also attended.
In a touching highlight of the event, Mollie was honored with a Proclamation naming March 16th “Mollie Horwitz Day” in Miami Beach. The official Proclamation was presented by Miami-Dade Commissioner Micky Steinberg, on behalf of Miami-Dade Mayor Daniela Levine Cava and the County Commissioners.
Also joining the festivities were two of Mollie’s biggest fans from EHDOC—Antonio Acea, Council Towers South Service Coordinator, and Enilda Thomas, recently retired Administrative Assistant II for Council Towers North and South.
Born in Lithuania as one of nine children, Mollie is a Holocaust survivor who credits her longevity to a positive outlook and the love of her family. With an incredible memory, a love for celebrating her birthday, and a passion for sharing her life’s stories, she continues to inspire all who know her.
We are delighted that this remarkable birthday milestone was celebrated with love, well-wishes, and recognition for our special resident, Mollie!
