This November, Elderly Housing Development & Operations Corporation (EHDOC) is taking its mission beyond our communities and into the heart of Miami through two exciting events that bring together philanthropy, community spirit, and a little South Florida fun. As EHDOC prepares for its first year participating in Give Miami Day, our team is looking forward to connecting with supporters in new ways and shining a spotlight on the work we do every day to provide stable, affordable housing and supportive services for older adults.
Kicking Off the Month at World Jai Alai Non-Profit Night
On Friday, November 6, EHDOC will participate in the World Jai Alai League Non-Profit Night at JAM Arena in Miami. The special evening brings South Florida nonprofits and their supporters together for live professional jai alai while giving participating organizations an opportunity to raise awareness, engage the community, and build support for their missions.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the first serve beginning at 7:00 p.m.
EHDOC supporters are encouraged to join us, wear purple, and stop by our table to meet members of the EHDOC team, learn more about our mission, and pick up a purple ribbon to show their support.
For nearly a century, Jai Alai has been part of South Florida’s cultural history, making this a uniquely Miami way to begin a month centered on community and giving. The World Jai Alai League has donated more than $500,000 to South Florida nonprofits since 2021, and its Non-Profit Night gives organizations like EHDOC another opportunity to bring their missions in front of the broader community.
Walking Together for Give Miami Day
Just over a week later, EHDOC will lace up again—this time for the Give Miami 5K + Festival on Sunday, November 15, at Maurice A. Ferré Park in Downtown Miami. The 5K begins at 8:00 a.m. and brings together runners, walkers, families, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community supporters for what organizers describe as “Miami’s Most Generous Race.”
For EHDOC, participation is about much more than crossing a finish line. Every person who registers for the 5K can designate a participating Give Miami Day nonprofit to receive their registration fee. That means EHDOC team members and supporters who select EHDOC are not only walking alongside us—they are directly helping advance our mission. And no one has to be a runner to participate. Whether you walk, run, cheer from the sidelines, or join the celebration afterward, the morning is designed to bring Miami together around the organizations working to strengthen our community. Following the race, participants can enjoy the Give Miami 5K Festival, featuring nonprofit experiences, entertainment, family activities, food, wellness activations, and opportunities to discover even more ways to get involved.
Building Momentum Toward Give Miami Day
Both events lead into one of the most important philanthropic moments of the year for our community: Give Miami Day on Thursday, November 19. Celebrating its 15th year in 2026, Give Miami Day has grown into a major community-wide movement supporting nonprofit organizations throughout Greater Miami. In 2025 alone, more than 60,000 donors made over 120,000 donations, generating approximately $43.8 million for more than 1,000 nonprofits.
This year marks EHDOC’s first Give Miami Day, providing an exciting opportunity to introduce more people in our hometown community to who we are, who we serve, and why affordable senior housing matters. For more than four decades, EHDOC has worked to ensure that older adults—particularly those with limited incomes—have access to affordable housing, supportive services, meaningful connections, and communities they are proud to call home.
During this season of giving, we are inviting our employees, residents, families, partners, vendors, friends, and supporters to be part of that mission. From the Jai Alai court to the 5K course and ultimately Give Miami Day itself, every conversation, every step, every share, and every donation helps us continue creating Housing with a Heart. We hope you’ll join us this November—and wear a little purple while you’re at it.
